Becoming an Apprentice or Trainee

Australian Apprenticeships are a great way to get a head start in your chosen career.

Some of the benefits of becoming an apprentice are:

  • you get paid to learn through a combination of on-the-job training and structured learning
  • Australian Apprenticeships are ‘competency-based’ which means you can complete your training faster if you reach the required skills level
  • your existing skills and prior experience are recognised and can contribute towards your course, potentially reducing formal training time
  • you graduate with nationally recognised qualifications and skills which provide the basis for further education and training over the course of your working life
  • Australian Apprenticeships offer a pathway from school to work
  • they are available full-time or part-time and are also available part-time in many secondary schools.

WDEA has an Australian Apprenticeship Centre at the following locations in western Victoria:

  • Warrnambool
  • Portland
  • Hamilton
  • Colac.

We are contracted by the Australian Government to provide one-stop shops for those seeking to hire Australian Apprentices or to take up an Australian Apprenticeship as a career path.
