Services for Jobseekers

Job Services Australia

Job Services Australia provides the right mix of training, work experience and interventions to help job seekers find the right kind of employment. WDEA works with job seekers to carefully assess their goals, skills and experience, personality and needs for the future to create individually tailored plans.

Some common terms you will hear:

  • Stream Services – Job seekers will be assessed as being eligible for one of four stream services depending on their needs and circumstances. In general, the higher the need or level of disadvantage that a job seeker has, the higher the Stream Service that they will be referred to. For example, a jobseeker assessed as being work-ready with suitable skills may be referred to Stream 1. A job seeker with multiple barriers to employment, such as homelessness or mental illness, may be referred to Stream 4.
  • Intensive Activity – Job seekers may be required to undertake an Intensive Activity during their period of unemployment. An Intensive Activity would usually be a two-week training course in job search techniques or other training, such as a computer course.
  • Work Experience – After a specified period in Stream Services, job seekers may be required to enter a work experience program. Work experience programs include Work for the Dole, Volunteer Work, Green Corp or other education or training.
  • Employment Pathway Fund – Some job seekers, depending on the Stream Service they are allocated, will be eligible for financial assistance for a range of items such as training, books and equipment, wage subsidies for employers, licences and workplace tickets, and transport assistance.
  • Employment Pathway Plan – A plan negotiated between the job seeker and WDEA to access the best resources and programs available for an individual. Plans will be renegotiated to reflect any change in circumstances or direction.
  • Job Matching – All of WDEA’s job seekers will be assessed so that we can best match their skills and experience with the available job vacancies.
